Erap calls on for safe, peaceful Traslacion
Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada appealed to devotees of the Black Nazarene to keep the annual procession orderly, safe and clean.
He also asked the people and to all the establishments where Traslacion will pass to cooperate and to help make sure the procession on Monday will go smoothly.
“I wish to appeal to the public to help in making sure Traslacion 2017 and all the activities related to it – the 1st Friday mass, vigil, Pahalik – are orderly and safe,” the mayor said in a statement.
Estrada said that the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDDRMO), in cooperation with all relevant agencies, is equipped and ready to execute emergency preparation and response plans for any eventuality.
He added that Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW) will deploy social welfare officers to provide assistance to devotees, especially to senior citizens and children.
Meanwhile, the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) will augment the Manila Police District-Traffic Enforcement Unit (MPD-TEU) to ensure public order in the streets and reduce traffic congestion during the event.
The MPD will be responsible for monitoring the event, security for the procession, crowd control, and traffic management. They will be augmented by NCRPO (National Capital Regional Police Office) and other support units.
“I want to assure you that the full force of the city hall are already in place for this coming procession,” Estrada added.
