Ibalik sa Grade 1! Iyo Bernardo greets ‘techears’ in tarp celebrating World Teachers’ Day

Pasig Vice Mayor Iyo Caruncho Bernardo might have offended teachers instead of pleasing them when he ordered tarpaulins celebrating World Teachers Day to be posted near schools in the city.

That’s because the tarp spelled out teachers the wrong way— “techears.”

A netizen, who posted a photo of the Bernardo’s tarp on Facebook, commented: “Pabalikin nga sa paaralan hetong Vice-Mayor Iyo Caruncho Bernardo na to.. nakakabuwisit.”

Barely 24 hours after the tarp triggered sniggers online and offline, Bernardo’s staff issued an apology and moved for the removal of tarps with the wrong spelling of teachers.

“Ang opisina po ni Vice Mayor Iyo Caruncho Bernardo ay humihingi po ng paumanhin sa lahat dahil sa lumabas po na tarpaulin ng pagbati ng HAPPY TEACHERS’ DAY! na mali ang naging spelling.. ito po ay hindi namin sinasadya,” the statement from Bernardo’s office read.

His staff attributed the gaffe to an error on the printer’s part.

The tarpaulins bearing the word “techears” has since been replaced with new ones with a correctly spelled greeting that would make teachers proud.
