Herbert Bautista proud of brother Hero despite drug use. Here’s why
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista continues to stand by his brother, Councilor Hero Bautista, in the aftermath of the latter’s voluntary decision to take a leave from office after testing positive for illegal drugs.
In a statement sent from Oslo, Norway where he is serving as an adviser to the Philippine government peace panel, Herbert answered persistent questions as to why he did not call his brother out for using drugs.
“Hero is 48 years old, has his own family, is independent from us. We barely see or talk to each other because we, as individuals, have our own set of lives and concerns,” he said.
“We only see each other on special family gatherings which are few because we are a small family,” the mayor added.
While Herbert said he and his family are “pain[ed]” by Hero’s drug dependence, he said he is proud of what his brother did after discovery of his addiction.
“I am proud of him (Hero) because he is taking full responsibility for his actions,” he said.
At present, Herbert said Hero is undergoing drug rehabilitation. He said his sister Harlene, facilitated their brother’s entry into the facility and is monitoring his progress.
